EXEMPLO (ICT in the Vocational Training Center of the future)
eLearning Call for Proposals DG EAC/61 /03
'Preparatory and Innovative Actions 2003/b’

Internal acronym: The project name adopted internally to EVTA, to avoid confusion between the platform (EXEMPLO) e the eLearning project itself (EXEMPLO), is ELEX (ELearning with EXemplo).

Project OVERALL OBJECTIVES
Exploit synergies and improve the exchange of information and experiences within a wide European network of vocational training and employment services.
Support the growth of an European wide Special Interest Group about the theme of the use of ICT and e-learning in the Long Life Learning vocational Centre, seen as the main knot in the network of services aimed at supporting, stimulating and facilitating the adult workers’ learning.
Exploit the potential of the “virtual communities of practice”, by using ICT tools to support team work and by trying to maximize dissemination and re-use, at an European level, of selected best practices of e-learning and ICT use in the field of vocational training.

Project PURPOSE

Enhancement of quality and typology of services and resources available on the Exemplo platform to the final user, in order to:
- integrate it more easily into the trainers' daily work,
- develop partnership between member organisations at teacher/trainer level,
- increase trust and mutual understanding among the Exemplo users from all member and non-member organizations.

APPROACH

The project will try to exploit the potential of the communities of practice within a wide association, using the digital communication tools to support the team work and trying to maximize the dissemination and re-use at a European level of selected best practices of e-learning and ICT utilization in the vocational training frame.

The EXEMPLO extranet platform will be used and enhanced to carry out the activities of the working groups. Experts of all the EVTA members, including all European countries, will be involved in the process, with the aim to promote dialogue between VT operators, sharing resources between organizations, foster the virtual community use and access by members and non-member organizations.

ACTIONS
The actions carried out to produce the expected results will be:

- to motivate all vocational training experts of each member organisation to use the Exemplo platform, experimenting methods and techniques of virtual community of practice animation;
- to create a common thematic structure, which will enhance effective research results into the databases on good practice and the Who 's Who,
- to fine-tune the potential of the tool by integrating new developments, ideas and applications from the field of Knowledge Management in virtual environments,
- to increase the number of good practices and of success stories on the Exemplo platform starting, in the mean time, a process of analysis, benchmarking, selection and dissemination of the more interesting experiences in the use of ICT and e-learning experience in the VT field.

EXPECTED RESULTS (go to downloads)
The results of the SIG works will be formalized in two reports and a handbook:

  • How to organize and foster communities of practice in the vocational training field”: final report about the methodological experimentations and results made in the virtual community of practice animation and development;
  • Selected e-learning in vocational training best practice collection”: final report about the EXEMPLO’s benchmarked and selected e-learning and ICT in vocational training best practices and experiences, with evidence of actions, results and indicators
